A cool and overcast Saturday morning in October provided the perfect
backdrop for the 3rd Japantown Neighborhood Association's Street Tree
Planting Event. In a joint effort between the JNA and Our City Forest,
neighbors, business owners and volunteers teamed together to plant a variety
of trees such as; Chitalpa tashkentensis, Platanus a. 'Columbia', Pistachia
chinensis and Gingko biloba throughout the neighborhood. A total of 14
trees were planted alongside homes on 3rd Street, Mission Street, 5th
Street together with businesses on Jackson Street and 6th Street.
The JNA volunteers included William Lambson, Mary Jo McCully, Raquel Price,
John Orozco and Tom Gorman. Thank you one and all for taking time out
of your busy schedules to continue to make Japantown a beautiful place
to live work and play.
The street trees are provided free of charge for planting within the parking
strips outside of homes and businesses. Volunteers can assist the owners
if they need help in planting the trees. Start approaching your treeless
neighbors and persuade them to participate in the Street Tree Planting
Event next year..... .
